Josh, originally from Lincolnshire, grew up playing in youth big bands. He is a lover of all music styles, and specialises in jazz and big band music. With ten years of experience directing school big bands, he brings energy and a wealth of knowledge to every rehearsal. As an active professional trombonist and local peripatetic brass teacher, Josh uses his background on stage and in the classroom to teach young musicians the art of ensemble playing, performance technique, and how to play in the jazz idiom.
He prioritises building an inclusive, encouraging environment where every student can thrive. A successful big band relies on the strength of every section, so rehearsals are structured to ensure players of all initial skill levels receive the support and challenge they need to improve, build confidence, and take pride in their progress.
