How it works
Location
Band Rehearsals take place at our bandroom
Teaching sessions may take place at our bandroom (subject to availability), or at another venue by mutual agreement with the teacher.
Band Rehearsals
Get in touch if you would like to join one of our bands, Our Director of Music will disuss with you which band may be best for you depending on your playing ability. You can come to one or two rehearsals to try out the band before you decide whether to apply for membership.
We charge £180 per year or £60 per term to become a member of the band.

Teaching Arrangements
Our teachers work independently from the band, so you don’t need to be a band member to take lessons.
Contact us and we will recommend a teacher for you.
Lesson arrangements are made directly between the teacher and the student (or their parent/guardian). Amersham Band does not manage lesson schedules, provide teaching materials, or handle payments—these details should be agreed upon with the teacher.
We have a policy for private teaching at the bandroom.
Group Teaching
Our Brass Blast band (for Beginners) and Brass Roots band (for Elementary level) are ideal for learning in a group setting. These groups are aimed at children and young people and run during term time. We can provide instruments on a loan basis to new members.

Summer School
Each year in July we run a four day Summer School. The School is for young people up to age 21 and inspires enthusiastic players under the expert guidance of Musical Director Paul Fisher.
Our experienced team of Amersham Brass tutors – Ash Horton, Malcolm Peach, Dee Waller-Box and Josh Gearing – will be joined by guest tutors and world-class soloists for four days of ensemble playing, technique workshops, and unforgettable musical experiences.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
If you join one of our bands we charge £180 per year or £60 per term. This fee covers participation in one or more of our bands and any other band activities, such as workshops. For private teaching, your tutor will explain the lesson charges.
What if I am unsure if I will enjoy playing in a band?
You can come to try out one of our bands for no fee. If you join and make a payment but then decide to leave, we will refund your membership fee pro-rata.
Will my child be made welcome?
We take great trouble to make sure that everyone in the band is welcomed and is enjoying playing. We have fully trained safeguarding officers in each of the bands and our Musical Directors are fully experienced in working with young people.
Can you provide instruments?
The band has a full range of instruments that can be loaned to members (subject to availability). If you want to take an instrument home to practice, there is a modest loan charge of £30 per year. All our instruments are insured by the band.
Do I need to buy a uniform?
Each band has a uniform and we can lend these to members if needed. We also have casual uniform items such as polo shirts, hoodies and jackets. These are optional and you can buy these from our supplier if you wish.
Will I have to play a solo?
Not if you prefer not to. Some players enjoy solos, and some are not so confident. It is up to you. No-one will be put on the spot or embarrassed.
Do I need to be a member to join your Summer School?
No, our Summer School is open to anyone who can play at the required standard.
