Best Ever Trip to Bensheim

A total of 33 band members and guests made a five-day trip to the Winzerfest celebration in Bensheim, Amersham’s twin town. The band played to a packed audience at a joint concert with the local AKG Big Band, played at the formal Festival opening ceremony and marched in the parade which comprised more than 100 other floats and bands. The town really comes alive during the festival week with many events, together with dozens of food and drink stalls lining the streets. In addition to the formal concerts, the band also added to the festivities with several informal street concerts.

Band Chairman, Fred Harrison said “This was the biggest band we have ever taken to Bensheim and everyone had a brilliant time, whether as a first-time visitor, or as a regular Winzerfest attendee. In particular, I am pleased that we were able to renew and strengthen our relationship with AKG who visited us in Amersham Last year; music is a great way to bridge language and cultural barriers.”

The band is already starting to plan for another visit in November 2019, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Freundeskreis twinning relationship.
