The band is competing in the Second Section of the Finals of the National Brass Band Championships on Saturday 16 September. The band is only one of two bands representing the London and Southern Counties region, having been awarded second place in the Regional Contest earlier in the Year. Chairman of the band, Fred Harrison, said “This is our toughest challenge yet, as although we have played in the Finals several times in the past few years, this will be our first experience of the high standard required in the Second Section.The band has been rehearsing hard to perfect the test piece “Music of a Legacy” by Stephen Ponsford but will be up against stiff competition from 17 other bands from across the country.”
