Hear our historic band at Heritage Day

With it’s 170 year history, Amersham Band will provide the ideal entertainment for Amersham’s Heritage Day on Sunday 13 September. Band historian, Caroline Perkins has carried out extensive research in conjunction with the Amersham Museum, which has uncovered the first mention of the band in 1845. There’s a fascinating history of the band through the late Victorian period and then in the 20th Century, with dozens of examples of how the band supported civic events and celebrations.

Band Chairman, Fred Harrison, said “the present band is honoured to have been such a central part of the town’s traditions over such a long period and we are now planning to strengthen our contribution to the community. The aim is to create a brass academy and to purchase a band-room rehearsal facility in the town centre.” The band started a fundraising appeal a few weeks ago and is making great progress. Come and support the band at Heritage Day so that we can secure our future in Amersham for the next 170 years.
