Barnet – Independent Order of Odd Fellows

Announcement Date: 1st June 1844

The brethren of the Loyal Wrotham Lodge, in this town, celebrated their anniversary on Monday last. They assembled at Mr Oliver’s, the Mitre Inn, at an early hour, and proceeded at eleven o’clock, decorated with the various insignia of their order, to the Independent Chapel, Wood Street, where an able and eloquent sermon was preached by the Rev Alexander Stewart, the highly respected and talented minister of the place. After the service had been concluded, a procession was formed, which passed up Wood Street, through Union Street, up High Street and by Hadley Church to the Common, where is remained for some time. During the movement, the Amersham Band was engaged in playing several appropriate airs, which were executed in such a manner as to give universal satisfaction.
